At a Loss

For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love,may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Ephesians 3:14-19

If I've learned anything over the past couple of years of writing, it's to stay out of the way and let God say what God wants to say. I write what he places on my heart and nothing else. So this week I have nothing to say. There has been no big issue God's worked me through that I feel I'm to share.

Instead I am totally overcome with how awesome He is...filled with such a joy at being connected to Him and all the greatness of His love. So I'd like to pray for you today - that somehow this joy and gratitude in my heart will spill into your own.

Father, you are so amazing. You are beyond us. The greatest good that we have experienced, the most amazing awesomeness we can imagine, does not even come close in comparison to you. You have all absolute power. Nothing existed before you. Everything exists because of you. You need nothing. You have no beginning or end. All love and goodness comes from you and exemplifies you - a small taste of who you are.

Yet in all your awesomeness and greatness, you care for us, for me, for my friend reading this right now. You who create and hold the universe together on scales of immense magnitude, also tend to the smallest detail. You word says you know the number of hairs on our head. You catch our tears and sing over us. You, the greatest one, know each of us personally, individually, intimately. Help us to grasp that. Let that realization sink deep into our hearts. Let it take root and grow and change us forever.

You love us this way not because we've earned it. Not because we deserve it. Not for any reason other than you love. That is who you are. Even before we recognized your love or our need for you, you loved us. Even before we loved you, while we were still distant and turned away from you, even then, while we were enslaved by sin, you made the way back to you.

Your love is total gift. Total grace.

Which shows us even more, your greatness.

Father, like Paul, I pray for my friend today. I pray that they would be overwhelmed with you today. That they would get a fresh understanding of not only your amazing greatness and power, but also your intimate and lavish love. Let them see you today like never before. Let them experience your love in such a significant way they can't attribute it to anyone other than you. And when that moment happens, remind them of this prayer. Let them KNOW you and your intimate love today like never before.

Then, may your joy and thanksgiving rise up within them and consume them so completely, they can not help but sing and worship you for all that you are. This is my prayer for my friend today. This is my prayer for myself. May we see your glory and bring you glory this day.
